The start of a new school year is always full of energy and anticipation. This autumn, FCG Senior School welcomed more than 50 new students, adding another milestone to the school’s growth and development — something the whole community can be proud of.
This semester begins with a series of activities designed to be both engaging and distinctive, bringing extra color and vibrancy to student life.
I. Campus Exploration: Getting Familiar with the New Environment
On registration day, students took part in a special Campus Exploration Activity. Armed with handdrawn “checkin maps,” they explored the grounds like eager adventurers. They stepped into bright classrooms buzzing with learning, chatted with teachers in their offices, admired the stables, imagined performances in the theater, raced down the indoor ski slope, made discoveries in the labs, and browsed the library’s shelves. By the end, new students had quickly found their bearings and started to feel right at home.
II. Celebrating Achievements: Led by Role Models
On Monday morning, the school held a meaningful and celebratory opening ceremony to mark the start of semester. Awards were presented to students who achieved honours over the summer in academics, arts, and sports, making them role models for their peers through both talent and perseverance. Smiling with pride as they received their certificates and posed with the Heads of College, they were met with enthusiastic applause. Their achievements celebrated past effort while inspiring all students to aim for excellence in the new semester.
III. Starting Point Tests: Precise Positioning
On the very first day, students completed a set of tests. Grades 9 and 10 sat exams in Mathematics, English, and Physics; Grades 11 and 12 were tested in Mathematics, English, and Sciences. These assessments served as academic “health checks,” helping teachers understand students’ levels and plan targeted support. They also gave students clarity about where to focus their efforts in the new semester.
IV. New Student Fun Activity: Integrating into the New Collective
To help new students settle in, the school held a welcome activity. Teachers and senior students acted as mentors, guiding newcomers through ManageBac and Teams so they could quickly get comfortable with the school’s systems. The activity wrapped up with a lively Kahoot! quiz that brought plenty of laughter and quick thinking. By the end, students had gained practical skills, built new friendships, and started to feel at home in the community.
V. Teacher-Student College Football Match: Building a Bridge of Friendship
On the evening of September 4, during the second prep session, students and teachers came together on the rooftop football field for a friendly match. The pitch buzzed with energy as players ran, passed, and scored. More than just a game, it was a chance to build stronger connections between teachers and students and deepen the bond among classmates. In the cool evening air, everyone played with passion, let off steam, and enjoyed the spirit of teamwork. In the end, Qilin House claimed the championship with determination and cooperation, cheered on by the crowd.
As the semester begins, we want to express our sincere gratitude to all faculty and staff. Through their dedication, care, and professionalism, they guide our students and drive the school’s progress. We are confident that, together, staff will continue to foster a positive and supportive learning environment this year.
This new semester brings both hope and opportunity. Every student — new or returning — has the chance to develop their talents and work towards their goals. By supporting one another, we can write an inspiring new chapter for FCG Senior School.
We also thank all parents for their continued trust and support. Working closely with you, we will provide students with the best possible education and opportunities for growth.
We wish all our students a rewarding and successful year ahead, as we pursue excellence together and look forward to a bright future.
