In this unit, in Grade 8 mathematics classes, students are conducting inquiry - based learning centered on "Criteria for Congruence of Triangles". Working in groups, they cut paper, communicate and discuss, focusing on exploring "whether two triangles can be proven congruent without all six corresponding parts being congruent".
This "inquiry - based learning" session reflects the IB MYP’s learning goal for "inquirers" —— children actively ask questions and independently explore the laws of knowledge. Meanwhile, group collaboration helps students improve their communication skills (ATL learning skills) during interactions: they share ideas, listen to peers, and sort out the logic of congruence criteria together. The process of combining hands-on operations and reasoning also develops their thinking skills, assisting them in generalizing mathematical laws from practice.
Through practice and inquiry, the class helps children master the knowledge of congruent triangles while fostering IB learners' core attributes like "principled, knowledgeable, and inquiring", as well as learning skills including "thinking skills, social skills, and self - management skills".
