Athletics Shine, Growth Flourishes

The Physical Education team is delighted to share the impressive progress, achievements, and ongoing initiatives from the first month of the academic year. It has been an exciting and action-packed start for our senior students, filled with competitive fixtures, curriculum milestones, and a strong focus on health, fitness, and lifelong learning.

We began the semester by completing the volleyball curriculum, which provided students with the opportunity to develop essential technical skills such as serving, setting, spiking, and defensive positioning. Through a combination of practical lessons and competitive gameplay, students have demonstrated excellent teamwork, communication, and tactical understanding. These sessions have not only improved their volleyball skills but also enhanced their leadership, cooperation, and resilience — qualities that are valuable both on and off the court.

In addition to curriculum lessons, our volleyball teams have been performing exceptionally well in the competitive league. We are proud to report that we are currently among the top-performing schools, with our student’s PE nedisplaying determination, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the season. The level of commitment and enthusiasm shown by our athletes reflects the growing strength of our sports programme and the high standards we continue to set.

Alongside volleyball, our football teams have also been actively involved in fixtures, representing the school with pride and passion. These matches have provided students with valuable competitive experience, helping them to apply tactical knowledge, refine technical abilities, and build confidence in a real match environment. Whether on the volleyball court or the football pitch, students have embraced the challenges of competition and demonstrated the importance of perseverance and teamwork.

As we transition into the athletics unit, our focus now shifts towards preparing students for the upcoming Sports Day — a major highlight of the school year. Athletics lessons will concentrate on key components such as sprinting, jumping, and throwing, allowing students to refine their techniques and understand how to apply them effectively in competition. This phase of the programme not only develops physical fitness but also promotes goal-setting, determination, and self-improvement, as students work towards achieving their personal best.

Health and fitness remain central pillars of our PE curriculum. Throughout the first month, students have participated in a variety of structured fitness sessions aimed at improving cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and overall well-being. These sessions are designed to help students develop healthy habits that extend beyond school life, supporting both their physical and mental health.

We are also proud to highlight the increased autonomy offered to our G11 and G12 students this year. Senior students now have the opportunity to choose from a wide range of physical activities that align with their personal interests and fitness goals. This student-led approach encourages independence, motivation, and responsibility, while also fostering a deeper understanding of how physical activity can play a lifelong role in maintaining health and happiness.

At FCG, we firmly believe that sport and physical education are more than just games — they are essential for life. Through our comprehensive programme, we aim to equip every student with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to lead active, healthy, and fulfilling lives. We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our students so far and look forward to an exciting and successful year ahead in sport and physical education.
