Using Our Library to Foster a Love of Language
At Fettes College Guangzhou (FCG), we are dedicated to cultivating a vibrant reading culture among our students. Our school library stands at the heart of our community, serving as a nurturing space for exploration and discovery. As author Patricia Akins beautifully stated, "A library is a place where we can all come together to share stories and grow."
Reading is essential for language development, enhancing vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. It also significantly contributes to academic success and emotional well-being, providing both an escape and a source of inspiration.
Students have scheduled visits the library during Homeroom and English classes, where they can delve into diverse genres and topics, broadening their understanding of the world. Each student will borrow an English book. during their class morning tutor time, when they finish their homework, and during the lunch break, the children will take out the borrowed books to read and read aloud to improve their English proficiency. We also encourage our students to visit the library during break times, where they can build on their reading skills, relax, and be a part of the school community.
We warmly encourage our FCG parents to engage with their children about their reading experiences at home. By fostering a love for reading together, we can ensure that the library remains a central part of our community's educational journey and enriches the lives of our students for years to come.
