Meet Tony, EY2's Friendly Classroom Companion! Every week, Tony joins us for literacy lessons, plays with us in the classroom, and then heads home with one of the children from EY2 for the weekend.
As luck would have it, just as we began our new unit of inquiry—How We Organize Ourselves—exploring the theme through the lens of transportation, EY2 was there to help Tony with a big dilemma!
Last week, we were introduced to the letter sound Nn with the help of Nelly the Narwhal. Nelly invited Tony over to her house for some nice noodles! There was just one problem—Nelly’s house is too far away for Tony to walk to. Luckily, EY2 came to the rescue!
The children hopped on a school golf cart and zoomed around campus, calling out, "Stop!" every time a new mode of transportation was spotted! Tony was thrilled with all the options he could use to get from school to Nelly's house.
After that, we had a lively discussion about how we get to school, and then the children conducted a survey to learn how all the teachers at school travel. This helped us brainstorm even more ways for Tony to make the journey.
Tony ended up with plenty of options, so the children voted for the one they thought was best and shared their reasons with him.
The votes are in, and Tony’s going to Nelly’s by horse!
