MS|Music in MYP: Inquiry, Practice, Performance

Over the past few weeks, Grade 6 students have made steady progress in music through their wonderful work. They have developed foundational skills in music notation, engaging in both group-based and individual worksheet activities. Additionally, they have explored djembe drumming through a range of rhythmic activities and have been introduced to the four instrument families of the orchestra through interactive activities and quizzes, which have strengthened both their listening skills and musical vocabulary.



Grade 7 students have been actively developing their musical skills through a balance of performance, listening, and inquiry-based learning. Students have practised basic singing skills using familiar songs and explored music history, including the Blues genre and the composer Mozart, through interactive exercises and double word puzzle activities. Furthermore, they have worked on syncopated rhythms through djembe drumming and developed ensemble skills by playing along with backing tracks, which has strengthened their sense of timing and coordination.



Grade 8 students explored the history of ragtime and jazz through interactive activities, worksheets, and word puzzles, developing their understanding of musical styles and related vocabulary. They also reviewed music notation through specific music word worksheets. A central focus was small-group band practice within a familiar musical context, which supported the development of communication, listening and ensemble skills.
