At the start of the new semester, FCG Early Years was filled with excitement as we celebrated the Spring and Lantern Festivals together. On the first day back children explored a range of Chinese New Year themed activities, allowing children to celebrate the new year with their teachers, friends and family.
To celebrate the Year of the Horse, children played drums and rode horses while wishing for a smooth year. Together we made homemade Tanghulu, children carefully threaded fruits and later watched as sugar syrup coated sweet and sour treats! As we arrived everyone had an opportunity to hang their hopes and wishes on the New Year wishing tree. In the classroom, children used brushes to carefully write lovely “fu” characters.
During Lantern Festival, a sugar artist made each child a sugar lollipop. Children were able to watch as she turned liquid sugar into shapes of dragons, rabbits and butterflies! EY children were excited to take their sugar lollipop and a light up lantern home.
These rich and colorful activities, rooted in traditional folk customs, kickstarted a wonderful new chapter for EY this semester.
