First Week of School: A Strong Start and Clear Focus
As the new semester begins, we welcome students back with a renewed sense of purpose. The first week has been dedicated to reinforcing core knowledge from last semester while introducing new content and challenges for the months ahead.
I. In the Classroom: Strengthening Knowledge and Starting Fresh
This week, economics classes across all grades have been highly focused and productive:
Review and Consolidation:
Students have been working through their final mock exam papers from last semester. With guidance from their teachers, they are revisiting key topics such as supply and demand curves, market failures, and macroeconomic policies. These sessions allow students to correct misconceptions and deepen their understanding of fundamental concepts.
Introducing New Content:
Some classes have already started exploring new material. Topics range from microeconomic market structures to macroeconomic growth, as well as classical theories and contemporary issues. These lessons encourage students to apply economic principles to real-world scenarios and broaden their analytical skills.
II. Beyond the Classroom: Representing Our School at the National Economics Challenge (NEC)
Over the winter break, four students represented our school at the National Economics Challenge (NEC) National Finals in Changsha.
This year’s theme, “Leading the Economy with Intelligence”, focused on the impact of artificial intelligence on employment, markets, and society.
The competition challenged students to go beyond textbook knowledge, engaging in debates and presentations on critical questions such as:
-
How should the value of labour be redefined as AI takes on more tasks?
How will AI-driven algorithms reshape market competition, and what issues of monopoly or fairness could arise?
What role can economic policies play in ensuring that technological advancements benefit society as a whole?
Our students demonstrated exceptional teamwork, critical thinking, and presentation skills, earning recognition for their efforts. Their achievements include:
PRE Division: Qualifying Test Overall Team Bronze Honour
Qualifying Test Top Scoring Challenge (Bronze Medal Winner)
Super Econ! Regional Overall Team Honour
Qualifying Test Individual Distinction Honour
This strong start to the semester highlights both the dedication of our students and the support of our faculty. We look forward to building on this momentum as the semester progresses.
