Primary School: A Feast of Library Activities for the New Semester

As we embark on a new semester, our library is thrilled to announce a series of enriching reading activities aimed at providing students with exciting reading experiences while fostering a love for reading.

During the first week, we shared these activities with students in the orientation library lesson. In addition to regular monthly Top Patron and the 21-Day Reading Challenge during noon breaks, we designed multi-dimensional reading activities to further develop and expand students’ enthusiasm for reading. New activities include Reading Buddy programmes, Reading Relay activities, and Book Salon sessions, all intended to stimulate students’ creativity and communication skills.

In this Year of the Horse, our library has also prepared a Library Special activity for DIY horse shrinking paper name tags crafts during noon breaks. This activity was very popular amongst our students. With the school featuring a horse stable and equestrian CCA, students have a special fondness for horses, and many created name tags for their beloved horses. After the first round of activities, many students requested to encore for a second round!

To establish a library collection that better caters to our students’ needs, we conduct an interactive survey every October on reading interests. Students always provide enthusiastic feedback offering valuable insights.

This week, our library hosted a unique Book Tasting activity to allow students to sample new arrivals. The reading room, transformed into a cafeteria, provided a novel experience for students. The new books were organised into a complete Western-style menu by different genres and showcased in order. Being seated quietly, students began to review the menu, subsequently selecting and sampling books. Some students were delighted to see titles they had recommended, and many expressed an immediate desire to check out the books. Some even humorously remarked that they had "sipped three bowls of soup"!

Our library is dedicated to igniting students’ enthusiasm for reading and creativity. These activities not only enrich students’ studies but also provide them with a platform to explore knowledge and express themselves. In the future, we will continue to listen to student feedback, refine our collection, and strive to create.
