We are delighted to extend a warm welcome to our children and families as we embark on a captivating journey in the Year of Loong, filled with endless possibilities and excitement.

We are currently delving into the exciting unit theme of "Farm Animals." Our outdoor excursions provide the ideal chance for children to immerse themselves in nature, where they can observe a myriad of fascinating sights. From the melodious chirping of birds perched in the trees to the lively hens residing in the neighbouring farm, and even the occasional meowing of cats beyond the walls. Additionally, children have the opportunity to witness the graceful movements of fish in the nearby pond, and, to top it off, they can even marvel at the magnificent horses at our FCG equestrian. These experiences enable children to closely observe the unique characteristics of various animals and familiarise themselves with the names of diverse farm animals.

Farm Experience

In order to provide children with an authentic farm experience, we have created a mini-farm within the EY1 classroom. This setup includes designated areas such as grasslands, sandy patches, and miniature forests, each inhabited by a variety of small animals. By exposing the children to these diverse habitats, they gain a deeper understanding of how different animals adapt and thrive in various environments. This hands-on approach fosters their learning and appreciation for the interconnectedness of nature and the animal kingdom.

Mini-farm within the EY1 Classroom

During a classroom discussion, the teacher posed the question, "Do the children know where eggs come from?" The responses from the children were diverse, reflecting different perspectives. Some mentioned that eggs are purchased, while others suggested that eggs grow or develop somehow. Interestingly, one child chimed in with the response, "Eggs are taken out from the refrigerator."

Furthermore, the EY1 children had the opportunity to visit a small vegetable field located within the early year school premises. They engaged in the delightful activity of hand-picking fresh vegetables, experiencing the joy and satisfaction that comes with harvesting produce firsthand. Nature serves as an abundant resource for children to explore, and we are committed to further nurturing their curiosity by embarking on enriching farm exploration journeys with our young learners.
