G9 Maths - Extended and Standard

In the three weeks since the beginning of this semester, we have finished studying the statistics part of IGCSE Mathematics 0580, and are currently talking about probability. We learned how to collect and organise data, as well as how to analyse and interpret it. We learned how to calculate statistics such as mean, median, range, and standard deviation. For extended class, we also learned how to draw statistical charts such as histograms and box and whisker plots.

In addition to classroom learning, we also organised students to register for the Kangaroo Math Competition and the Waterloo Math Competition. These competitions provide practical opportunities for students to apply the mathematical knowledge and skills they have learned. Participating in competitions can not only exercise mathematical thinking and problem-solving abilities, but also stimulate students' interest and enthusiasm for mathematics.

G9 Maths – Core

In the Core class, while studying basic probability concepts, the teacher designed a roulette wheel experiment to help students understand the concepts of theoretical probability and conditional probability. In the experiment, each student selects a specific sector on the roulette wheel and records and shares their experimental results.

G10 IGCSE Additional Mathematics (0606)

and IGCSE Mathematics (0580)

At the end of March, we are about to finish the new course content and transition to IGCSE pre-exam review and practice with past papers. Amidst the intense studying and preparation, some students from Grade 10 and others from Grade 11, under the guidance of teachers, visited Shenzhen Xinyinhai Electronics Co., Ltd. for on-site study, aiming to understand the mathematical models used by enterprises to achieve Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals through production process optimisation. During this activity, students had face-to-face exchanges with Professor Y.H. Kuo from the University of Hong Kong and engineers from Xinyinhai Electronics, learning about the specific applications of mathematical modelling in research and industry.

G11 A-level Mathematics (9709)

Whether for Pure Mathematics 1 or Statistics 1, we have essentially completed the new course content and begun the stage of focused review and pre-exam practice with past papers. In order to help classmates review more effectively and take initiative in mastering the knowledge, students have been divided into several groups, with each group responsible for summarising and explaining the content of a chapter.

G11 A-level Further Mathematics (9231)

This semester we have studied the further statistics section, which includes three chapters: inferential statistics, Chi-squared test and non-parametric test. Inferential statistics is one of the most important areas in statistics. It helps us make inferences about the population from sample data, including hypothesis testing and interval estimation. The chi-squared test is widely used in a variety of fields, including medical research, market research, and social sciences, to examine relationships between variables. Non-parametric testing is a statistical method that does not rely on population distribution assumptions. We have learned some common non-parametric testing methods, such as the Wilcoxon signed-rank test.

G12 A-level Mathematics (9709)

In A-level Mathematics, iterative methods are frequently applied to solve equations or problems. Teachers guide students through practical computations and observe the convergence process during the teaching process. When using iterative methods to solve problems, students need to understand the convergence and divergence of the iterative process. Convergence refers to whether the iterative process tends towards a stable solution, while divergence refers to whether the iterative process will deviate from the solution indefinitely. Students should learn to judge the convergence of iterative methods and adjust algorithms or initial guesses as needed to ensure convergence.
