EY|Exploring the Journey of ‘Sharing the Planet’

We started our new Unit of Inquiry into the theme of 'Sharing the Planet', focused on natural resources and using them responsibly by exploring what resources are. As a starting point, we began exploring the concept of resources in our classroom. Through this exploration, we identified various resources and shared our findings with our classmates, discussing how they can be utilised. This process enabled us to develop a deeper understanding that resources are substances or materials that can be utilised to create or accomplish something.

We then went exploring outside and the children discovered many natural resources out in the playground, maze, and veggie patch. They actively engaged in brainstorming sessions to determine various potential uses for these resources. The children exhibited remarkable creativity as they imagined different ways to utilise them. For example, they suggested using the sticks for playing, creating artwork, building fires, making hawthorn candy, crafting lollipops, or using them as skewers for barbecue, to cook meat or veggies!


“We can make art with leaves or write or draw on them!”


The children brainstormed and shared the uses of natural resources they wanted to learn about. They planned to engage in a parent-child exploration at home over the weekend.



The children shared the information they gathered at home with their classmates.
