This week, the children in EY3 engaged in a series of fun activities centred around the letter "T". We held a special "Tea Party", where the children gathered to listen to the teacher share the classic story The Tiger Who Came to Tea. This lively and entertaining story introduced the children to a variety of words starting with the letter "t", such as "tiger”, "tea" and “two”.

During the tea party, the children made "tea snacks" related to the tea party. They first practiced tracing and recognising the letter "T". When they completed this task, the children excitedly made "tea cake" to add fun to "Mr Tiger's Tea Party". Through this manual activity, the children not only deepened their understanding of the letter "T", but also improved their hands-on ability and spirit of cooperation through creative labour.

Additionally, the children expanded their vocabulary with more T-words that begin with the letter "t". With the teacher’s guidance, they practiced the pronunciation and spelling of words like "tree", "tap" and "teddy", anchoring the abstract letter to real objects thus enhancing the children’s understanding and letter recognition skills of the letter "t" both audibly and visually.

The children connected their literacy learning to their unit of inquiry by collaborating to create a "family tree". Each child wrote the names of their family members on leaves and pasted these "family leaves" on the branches of a large tree. Through this activity the children not only learned about their own families, but also gained a better understanding of the relationships among family members.

The children learned both the Chinese and English terms for "mom", "dad", "older brother", "older sister", "grandpa", "grandma", "uncle" and "aunt". The children truly felt the warmth of family. Throughout the activities, each child was filled with motivation and enthusiasm for learning.
