With the new semester underway, our students are immersing themselves in the wonders of science, embarking on a journey of discovery and exploration. In the classroom, ticker-tape timers reveal the paths of motion; at the lab bench, coils and magnets spark curiosity and creativity; and in discussion corners, derivations and lively debates bring ideas to life.  We are excited to share the latest updates and highlights from the world of Physics across Grades 9 to 12.

Grade 9 | First Steps into Physics — Igniting the Spark of Science

Grade 9 students have begun their journey into the IGCSE and AP frameworks. This term, our focus is on building a strong foundation by strengthening core subject vocabulary and fostering physics-based thinking and scientific reasoning through contextual questioning. The semester emphasises the fundamentals of General Physics, with a focus on key topics like kinematics and forces. Through speed–time graphs, force and free-body diagram analysis, and hands-on experiments, we guide students in developing essential scientific habits: observing, hypothesizing, and verifying.

Grade 10 | Exam on the Horizon — Progress, Step by Step

Grade 10 lessons are progressing steadily and with clear focus. As next year’s IGCSE external examinations draw closer, students are actively engaging—under teacher guidance—in focused practice, immediate feedback, and timely reviews.

In the first few weeks of this term, students have systematically explored Electromagnetism, deepening their understanding of how motors and generators work. They have also begun their exploration of the microscopic world of atomic and nuclear physics. By bridging macroscopic energy conversion with microscopic structure, our lessons combine conceptual modeling with hands-on demonstrations, transforming abstract concepts into tangible knowledge that students can visualize, reason through, and apply.

Grade 11 | A Steady Transition from IGCSE to AS

Having completed the IGCSE stage, Grade 11 students have transitioned into the more rigorous AS curriculum. Far from slowing down, they remain focused and are making steady progress.

So far, students have explored key topics such as Kinematics, Forces, Momentum, and Pressure. Our teaching approach prioritizes multiple representations and encourages students to apply their knowledge to a variety of problem types. Each physical quantity is examined through graphs, experimental verification, and real-world approximations and estimates, helping students deepen their understanding and apply concepts in meaningful and practical ways.

Grade 12 | Multi-Pathways — One Determination

Grade 12 Physics remains both diverse and highly personalized:

  • Some students have successfully completed make-up exams with teacher support and have identified their next areas of focus.

  • Oxbridge applicants, guided by their teachers and driven by their own determination, have completed the required tests and submitted their applications.

  • A2 topics are advancing in parallel, including circular motion, gravitation, simple harmonic motion, and ideal gases. A standout highlight this term is the Ideal Gases unit, which ties directly to our Culture Festival hot-air balloon. Using the equation of state to explain the conditions for lift and the relationship between temperature and volume, students bring physics to life—from paper to sky—creating a vivid and lasting connection between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

CCA | Layered Pathways, Comprehensive Support

Across all grades, the Physics Department provides well-structured and goal-focused CCAs:

  • In-school consolidation: Designed to address knowledge gaps, improve organizational skills, and correct common errors.

  • Competition enrichment:

Offering specialized training and past-paper practice for competitions such as the Physics Bowl, BPhO, and Oxbridge admission tests (PAT/ESAT).

Students are actively engaged, fully supported, and equipped with the tools they need to succeed. We believe that every step forward is valuable, no matter how unique each student’s path may be.

Every focused gaze and every “aha” moment helps shape a learner who thinks critically, asks insightful questions, and solves problems with confidence and creativity.

Thank you for your ongoing support and collaboration. If you would like a personalized update on your child’s progress, please feel free to reach out to us. Together, we look forward to watching our students thrive in the world of physics—resilient, curious, and warm-hearted.
