Primary G1 English: Personalised Learning for a Confident Start

Welcome to Primary G1! We are excited to begin this educational journey with your child. Our goal in G1 English is to nurture a genuine love for the language while ensuring every child builds a strong foundation for future success. To achieve this, we use a personalised learning approach. This means we tailor our instruction to meet the specific needs and readiness of each student, allowing them to learn with confidence and enthusiasm.











Our Approach: Focused Learning Groups


After baseline assessments, students are placed into one of two learning groups within G1. These groups are designed to provide targeted support and challenge, ensuring optimal growth for everyone.


  • The Sun Group focuses on developing essential early literacy skills. We immerse students in Phase 2 phonics through interactive methods like songs and TPR (Total Physical Response), which uses actions to reinforce memory. Learning is structured and sequential: each week, our reading and spelling activities directly align with the new sounds being taught. This builds a solid understanding of how letters form words. We complement this with the Cambridge Power Up curriculum, which provides a vibrant context for developing vocabulary, listening, and speaking skills in a supportive, interactive environment.


  • Students in the Mercury Group are ready to expand upon their existing phonics knowledge, exploring Phase 3 sounds, including letter blends. The focus here shifts towards greater fluency—applying these skills to more complex reading passages, developing writing confidence through sentence-level work, and enhancing comprehension. Using the Cambridge Power Up series, we challenge these learners to use English more independently and creatively, fostering critical thinking and communication skills.

Continuous Support and Growth


We believe a child's learning journey is dynamic. Our groups are flexible and are regularly reviewed through ongoing observation and milestone assessments. We focus not just on achievement, but on progress, engagement, and readiness to ensure each child is always in the best possible learning setting to thrive.


Additional strategies, such as collaborative peer learning and academic support sessions, are seamlessly integrated to provide extra help where needed.
