Maths Is So Much Fun!

In our lower Primary School mathematics classes, the learning journey for the children is filled with fun and laughter. To make maths a part of their exploration of the world, we apply the "play-based learning" teaching philosophy. This approach transforms dull mathematical operations into interactive games, allowing students to learn in a relaxed and enjoyable environment while enhancing their math skills and teamwork spirit.

For example, in first grade, children solidify their addition and subtraction skills within 10 through a "dice-rolling" game. Each student takes turns rolling the dice and performing addition or subtraction based on the number rolled, which adds to the fun and engagement of learning. Additionally, we have introduced "Bingo," where children search for answers on number cards. This not only develops their calculation abilities but also stimulates their competitive spirit. Through these games, children delve deeper into mathematical concepts while enjoying the process.

In Grade 2, we utilise games such as snakes and ladders, colouring activities, and Bingo to practice multiplication. In snakes and ladders, students advance by rolling dice, with each square representing a multiplication question that they need to calculate and solve during the game. The colouring activity combines the concept of multiplication, allowing children to visually grasp the results while completing their tasks. These hands-on activities significantly enhance their interest in learning, helping them master basic multiplication concepts through play.

By incorporating games into the classroom, we not only make the practice of mathematical operations more enjoyable but also create a positive learning atmosphere. Children collaborate in games, discussing strategies, which fosters their sense of teamwork and communication skills. Moreover, this relaxed and enjoyable approach to learning reduces their academic stress, helping them develop a positive attitude toward the subject of math.

We believe that maths is not just formulas and numbers in books but an essential part of life. Through games and interactive learning, children can apply mathematical knowledge in real-life situations, laying a solid foundation for their future learning. We look forward to seeing the children shine in maths and grow joyfully!
