Sports Day Preparation: A Five-Week Journey
Over the past five weeks, our Middle School students have worked incredibly hard in preparation for our annual Sports Day. This year, the PE team designed a structured and progressive training programme to ensure every student—regardless of starting fitness level—felt confident, capable, and excited to take part.
Each week focused on developing specific skills and physical qualities:
Week 1 - Fiteness Foundations
Week 2 - Event Skills Development
Week 3 - Strength, Power & Agility
Week 4 - Sportsmanship, Tactics & Practice Events
Week 5 - Mock Sports Day & Final Preparation
Students showed excellent effort throughout, improving teamwork, confidence, and physical literacy.
Sports Day was a fantastic celebration of determination, energy, and house spirit.
Some memorable moments included improved sprint technique, strong relay teamwork, impressive long jump and javelin performances, and outstanding student sportsmanship.
The supportive atmosphere and positive behaviour made this event a real success.
Behind the Scenes: PE Team Preparation
In the weeks leading up to Sports Day, the PE team worked diligently to ensure a smooth and enjoyable event, including:
Designing the five-week training programme
Setting up skill stations and providing technical coaching
Coordinating with homeroom tutors
Ensuring safety, hydration, and warm-up routines
Managing equipment, scoring, and event timing
We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful to all staff who supported the day.
Following the success of Sports Day, our next PE focus will be an eight-week basketball unit.
Students will develop:
Dribbling and ball-handling skills
Shooting technique and lay-ups
Offensive and defensive movement
Teamwork, strategy, and game awareness
Confidence in applying skills in full game play
This exciting unit will give students the opportunity to build both fundamental skills and tactical understanding as they work towards friendly competitions at the end of the eight weeks.
We look forward to seeing their continued growth and enthusiasm
