Since the beginning of the second-grade Chinese Language Studies, there has been significant progress. The students' handwriting has become more standardised, the accuracy of vocabulary dictations has improved, the reading of the texts has become more fluent, and the range of extracurricular book reading has also expanded.

1. Writing and Dictation of Chinese Characters

"There is a rule for each stroke, and each character is the standard for the entire text." This famous quote by the Tang Dynasty calligrapher Sun Guoting tells us that each stroke should be well written. In the second semester of the second grade, there are 250 Chinese characters in the handwriting workbook that require children to carefully trace and write. With the guidance of the teacher, most students have gradually developed good writing habits and are able to pay attention to the structural framework of Chinese characters, striving to write in a standardised, upright, and tidy manner. Through continuous practice and repeated dictations, over 90% of the children can achieve the requirement of getting all dictations correct.

  2. Reading of Texts

      课文的朗读

"The method of reading lies in following a sequence and progressing gradually, reading extensively and thinking deeply." During the weekly morning reading sessions, the classrooms are filled with the melodious voices of students reading aloud. They follow the Chinese language teacher to read the texts fluently, accurately, and with emotions. In the classroom, students learn the texts through various methods such as teacher-led reading, group reading, and individual reading. Through reading aloud, they understand the texts and consolidate the recognition and memorisation of new words and phrases.

3. Reading of the Whole Book

"Before a bird soars high, it must first flap its wings; before a person seeks progress, they must read." Reading ability is a fundamental skill for children's language learning and holds great importance. The book selected for the class to read in March is "The Seven-Coloured Flower." Through introductory lessons, reading strategy lessons, library guidance, and more, the children have understood the book's basic information. They have also learned reading strategies such as "visualisation" and experienced the joy of reading Chinese books in the library.
