PS|Chinese Study for Grade One

In a twinkling, it's been a month since the first graders started school. Through learning the song "Going to School," they have come to understand that Primary school students should "love learning, love working, and grow up to contribute to the people." By studying "I Love Learning Chinese," they have learned that Chinese class is about "reading, writing, listening to stories, and telling stories."

In just a month, the children have transformed from not knowing how to hold a pen or write to being able to maintain the correct posture while writing Chinese characters. Children who used to read very little have now completed the weekly class reading assignments, including "David Goes to School," "The Taste of the Moon," "I Love Books," and "The Runaway Bunny," as well as read books they borrowed from the library.

(1) Two Writing Postures

During the writing time of each class, the children should first adjust their posture, adhering to the principles of "head straight, back upright, shoulders relaxed, arms in an open position, and feet flat on the ground," as well as "eyes one foot away from the desk, chest one fist away from the edge of the desk, and hands one inch away from the pen tip." Then, they hold the pen according to the posture of "one inch high, two fingers pinching, two dots resting, palm empty, and upright palm."

With continuous practise, each first grader can consistently write Chinese characters using the correct double posture.

(2)Chinese Reading

In every reading class, the children are filled with anticipation and enthusiasm. They listen attentively as the teacher reads picture book stories and they actively discuss the content. After finishing the story, the children go to the library to borrow books. Classic stories are endlessly enjoyable; right after hearing "David Goes to School," the children rush to the library to borrow more books from the David series, such as "David Can't" and "David, It's Christmas!"
