In the latest UOI unit for Grade 5, students are delving into the theme of "Understanding and Resolving Conflicts in Life." This topic aims to help children understand the roots of conflict and learn effective resolution skills, enabling them to become more responsible global citizens.
Students explore various forms of conflict in life through group discussions and role-playing. They learn to identify the roots of different conflicts, recognising the human emotions and needs behind them. This process fosters their curiosity and encourages them to delve deeper into diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
We emphasise the importance of communication and listening, teaching students how to adopt a constructive attitude when facing conflicts. By sharing personal experiences, students build empathy in the classroom, learning to understand the feelings and needs of others, which promotes more harmonious interactions.
Students will visit the library to research relevant materials. Through reading, they will study conflict resolution methods in different cultures as well as successful mediation cases from history. This component enhances their research skills and helps them understand the diversity and complexity of conflict resolution.
Additionally, students will undertake personal projects to consider how to apply the conflict resolution skills they have learned in their lives. They can document their observations and experiences, reflecting on interactions within their school, family, and friendships. Furthermore, they will design posters to promote the importance of peace and understanding. This reflective and creative process will help them develop self-awareness and expressive abilities.
We hope to cultivate students' empathy and problem-solving skills, allowing them to become active global citizens in practice. Let’s work together to create a more harmonious world!
