SS|Mathematical Investigations-Trigonometry

As G10 students’ rich life experiences and associations of mathematics ablility grows, classroom teaching can better inspire their interest in learning from real life. The topic of “right angle triangles” shows us a colourful word just like a kaleidoscope. After learning the topic “Pythagorean theorem”,through investigating the topic of “how to measure the flag height” “the altitude of tree” “the height of a tower” and the activity of “marine treasure hunt”, students were immersed in the process of inquiry learning and mastered the principle of trigonometry and practical application.



Inquiry-Based Learning

Students learn about the concept of bearing and application by the treasure map problems.




Group Work

Peer learning and discussion are conducted. Through analysing and discussing the problems,  students solve the problems in groups.




Connection Between Old Knowledge

and New Knowledge

In the process of investigation, using the "Pythagorean Theorem" they had learned and combining with the trigonometric function (sinx, cosx, tanx), the students found the treasure successfully.

Practice makes progress for retention and long-term learning. Making sure that students are not only learning lesson content but really master new skills through curiosity and play.
