Our G6 students have embarked on a learning unit exploring "Traditional Arts and Culture." Through modern prose and ancient poetry, the students delved into the cultural significance of traditional festivals, from Lao She's depiction of Beijing's Spring Festival to Shen Congwen's portrayal of the Laba Festival, and further to the Cold Food Festival with its "Cold food east wind, royal willows slant" and the Qixi Festival with its "Far, far away, the Cowherd Star, bright, bright, the Weaver Girl Star." They experienced the unique atmosphere of these festivals and gained an understanding of the national sentiments and cultural heritage behind them.

Additionally, the students stepped into the world of traditional opera, appreciating the grandeur of Beijing Opera, the face-changing of Sichuan Opera, the melodiousness of Huangmei Opera, and the mystique of Tibetan Opera. By watching classic excerpts and participating in group activities, they learned about opera and experienced the regional cultural characteristics, sparking a passion for traditional arts.

At the same time, the unit focused on learning how to "organise article structure appropriately and distinguish between detailed and concise writing." Through practice, the students mastered writing techniques, enabling them to organise materials methodically and express their viewpoints clearly in their compositions. We look forward to the students combining traditional culture with modern expression to create works that are rich in cultural depth and personal style!

Our G7 students have embarked on the exploratory unit titled "Great Men and Common Folk." Through a series of carefully selected texts and supplementary readings, students will encounter the remarkable figures who have made significant impacts throughout history, both ancient and modern, as well as across different cultures, while also experiencing heartwarming stories of ordinary people in society. In this unit, they will grasp the main characteristics of these individuals, deeply appreciate their qualities, and thereby awaken their aspirations for ideals and relentless pursuit.

At the same time, they will gain insights into the lives and emotions of ordinary people, feeling the beauty of humanity embodied in them and the national character they represent. Students will immerse themselves in classic biographies such as "Stars Shining in the Firmament of Humanity," "The Life of Su Dongpo," and "Three Days to See," learning to summarise character portraits, extract core traits and spiritual connotations of the characters, and create character posters showcasing their physical appearance, personality traits, major achievements, and their influence on future generations.

The Grade 8 students have launched into the exploration of the interdisciplinary unit "Folk Customs and Travelogues". In Chinese classes, they have studied articles about the cultural folk customs in various places, learned about the renowned writers' admiration for natural scenery, and will also study the writing methods of classical Chinese travelogues. Since it is an interdisciplinary unit, the students will also combine the knowledge learned in geography classes and jointly create a "Local Travel Handbook" as the summative assessment result for this unit.
