In our EY1 class, our students have been deeply engaged in the unit of inquiry: Sharing the Planet. They have embarked on an exciting journey, discovering various animals and exploring the amazing world around them!

SPRING

Learning Experiences

Throughout this exploration, the children have learned the names of animals from key categories: the farm, water, the wild, and soon, pets and insects. They explored the initial letters of these animals, observing how they move and the sounds they make. To enhance their learning, we had a fantastic dress-up lesson where the children transformed into their favourite animals, bringing our lessons to life.

In a creative science/safari activity, we explored the concepts of light and dark. This hands-on experience allowed the children to engage with their environment in a fun and imaginative way, fostering creativity and understanding.

Real-Life Animal Encounters

To enrich their experience, the children had the opportunity to feed a real horse, which was thrilling for all! They also enjoyed observing ducks and chickens, gaining firsthand knowledge of how these animals behave in their natural environments.

Celebrating Spring

We celebrated the first day of spring by tasting a special Chinese treat prepared by our wonderful kitchen staff.

Natural Materials Exploration

Nature

As part of our topic, we engaged in hands-on activities using natural materials related to the ocean. The children explored sand and water, creating their own sea with waves while listening to the sounds of splashing water and seagulls. This sensory experience was both calming and educational!

Art and Creativity

In our art lesson, we used stencils of various wild animals like zebras and giraffes. This activity developed their fine motor skills and encouraged self-expression as they created the masterpiece.

Maths in Action

In Maths, the children sorted land and water creatures, reinforcing their understanding of different environments. They also learned shapes and counted using catchy songs like "Five Little Ducks," making maths fun and engaging.

Communication and Language Development

Throughout the unit, the children practised new vocabulary related to animal names and sounds, enhancing their communication skills. Our storytelling sessions allowed them to express their thoughts and ideas, further enriching their language development.

Looking Ahead

As we continue our exploration of Sharing the Planet, we look forward to more engaging activities and learning opportunities in our journey of discovery!
