In today's age of rapidly evolving information technology, the digital learning environment has become part of our daily lives. This environment has not only changed the way we behave, but more importantly, it has changed the way we think. The FCG Middle Years Programme (MYP), design curriculum keeps pace with the times and is committed to developing students' digital literacy and skills to help them become digital natives for future society.
Below are the topics that MYP students are exploring in the design classroom:
Topic: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
In our Artificial Intelligence lesson, we explored the meaning of 'electronic police' and how intelligent surveillance works. In addition, our students delved into the computer vision techniques behind it, such as exploring the use of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) in image recognition. Our students built a prototype of an electronic police programme, and applied AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology of classification to identify "fugitives". Through these hands-on activities, our students understood the practical applications of these algorithms in police and intelligent decision-making.
Topic: Internet Fundamentals and Cybersecurity
In the unit "The Internet and Its Impact", we explored data transmission over the network, including the fundamentals of network communication such as the TCP/IP protocol stack and the HTTP/HTTPS protocols. Students learned about the process of routing data packets and how to identify secure web pages through techniques such as SSL certificates through simulation experiments, thus enhancing their awareness of network security.
Topic: Computer Vision and Emotion Analysis
The "Magic Emoji" unit focuses on advanced topics in computer vision, such as facial recognition techniques, biometric extraction, and sentiment analysis. Students learned how to use deep learning frameworks to train models to recognise facial features and emotional states. These are skills that will be vital for future explorations in the field of human-computer interaction.
The FCG Middle Years Programme's design curriculum not only covers the fundamentals of information technology but also introduces innovative academic concepts and practical skills. Our goal is to develop students' critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, enabling them to explore and grow confidently in the digital world.
We look forward to each student discovering their interests in the vast realm of technology, unleashing their potential, and collectively creating a smarter and safer future.
