The language and literature course in Middle School enhances students' language expression and literary literacy by delving into classic literary works, learning writing techniques, and honing language skills. This not only boosts students' reading comprehension and writing proficiency but also nurtures their emotional intelligence, aesthetic sense, and overall humanistic qualities thus laying a crucial foundation for their future academic and professional endeavours.

The G6 students have begun their exploration unit on "Narrative Things and Persons." In this unit, students delve into vibrant narrative techniques to better understand how to depict characters' traits and emotions. They learn how to use detailed descriptions and dialogue to showcase character features, allowing readers to feel the authenticity and depth of the characters. Simultaneously, under the guidance of their teacher, students engage in whole book reading, analysing the growth and changes of characters within the stories. This combination not only enhances their reading comprehension skills but also sparks their creativity, encouraging them to consider the inner worlds of characters from different perspectives. With improvements in both reading volume and writing techniques, we look forward to seeing our students create moving narrative pieces that express rich emotions and unique viewpoints.

The G7 students entered the unit on “human emotions” and explored the key concept of “relationships”, distinguishing the qualities of different relationships and revealing their interdependence and mutual influence. Through reading a series of articles, students gradually unlocked the literary codes of emotional expression. They savoured the delicate emotions behind the words and understood how the author used language to convey emotions. In the process of text analysis, students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of environmental description. They realised that a delicate depiction of the environment not only creates an atmosphere, but also strengthens the expression of emotions in the text, thus mastering the subtle writing technique of ‘expressing emotions through scenery’. On the basis of their understanding, the students created their own works to show their understanding of the characters' relationship and human emotions.

The G8 students have embarked on a study unit on "News and Media." They have explored the characteristics of different forms of media, discussed the differences between new media and traditional media. Students have also read and analysed various genres of news articles, understanding the distinctions between news reports, features, and bulletins, and mastering the inverted pyramid structure of news writing. Currently, they are engaged in learning news interviewing and news writing, with anticipation for their original campus news pieces.
