As our first graders embarked on their new school journey, curiosity filled the air. When a teacher introduced the class schedule, one student asked, "What is Unit of Inquiry?" With a warm smile, the teacher replied, "The moment you asked that question, you began your inquiry!"

Inquiry is a key part of our learning approach, designed to develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and encourage independent exploration. The IB inquiry curriculum invites students to take charge of their own learning by asking questions, seeking answers, and connecting what they learn to the real world.

Since these first graders are just starting out in school, their first unit of inquiry focused on "How We Organise Ourselves," exploring the ways school helps them learn, play, and grow. Through class discussions and activities, the students worked together to create their own class rules, signing a class agreement to ensure everyone can learn and play in a positive environment.

In addition to setting class rules, the students toured the school to explore different areas, learning the rules of each space. They also visited the library to understand how to borrow books and made their own library bookmarks. As part of a hands-on project, they created personalised maps of the campus, which they will use for a guided tour to discover every corner of the school.

This inquiry journey has only just begun. As they continue, students will transform their curiosity into interview questions for teachers, deepening their understanding of the school community. These experiences are not only shaping their love for learning but also helping them grow as thoughtful, engaged members of our school.
