In a recent lesson, the children embarked on a hands-on exploration of sunlight and its behaviour when obstructed by objects. Venturing outdoors, they observed with wonder the shadows cast by the sun's rays, joyfully tracing the silhouettes created by their bodies intercepting the sunlight. Through this activity, they discovered the art of manipulating the size and shape of their shadows, unlocking the secrets of light and shade.

A delightful revelation unfolded as the children grappled with the challenge of sketching around their shadows, realising that they were also casting shadows making it harder to draw around the shadows of their friends.

Transitioning to the next phase of our shadow-centric lesson, the students were introduced to the enchanting realm of shadow puppets. Enthralled by videos showcasing the mesmerising art of shadow puppet theatre, they marvelled at the intricate shapes individuals could create using their bodies and shadows, while also discerning the narrative potential that shadows possess.

Inspired by these discoveries, our young creatives set out to craft their own shadow puppets, learning that the designs adorning their puppets would remain unseen, with only the basic outlines casting shadows. Anticipation is high as we gear up to unveil our very own shadow puppet theatre, preparing to dazzle with imaginative performances and captivating stories brought to life through the magic of shadows.
