Over the past several weeks, the Middle School EAL Department has been preparing students for the upcoming Cambridge English examinations taking place in June. These qualifications—A2 KEY for Schools (KET), B1 Preliminary for Sc (PET), and B2 First (FCE)—are globally recognised and form an important part of our language learning journey at FCG.

Students from Phase 1 and Phase 2  are working towards the KET (A2 level), Phase 3 students are targeting the PET (B1 level), and Phase 4 students are being guided through preparation for the more advanced FCE (B2 level). All students have recently completed a series of practice tests designed to mirror the format and content of the official exams. These assessments have provided valuable insights into current attainment levels and areas requiring further support.

Following these assessments, the EAL teaching team has shifted its focus to exam preparation, ensuring that each lesson now includes:

  • Familiarisation with exam-style questions,

  • Vocabulary development aligned to Cambridge test themes,

  • Focused grammar review and usage in context,

  • Regular speaking practice under timed conditions,

  • Structured guidance on writing tasks and strategies.

We understand that these exams are an important milestone and are committed to supporting each student’s progress through carefully adapted teaching and one-to-one feedback where necessary.

A letter detailing exam dates and expectations has been shared with all families. We kindly ask for your continued support in reinforcing revision at home and helping students develop good study habits in the lead-up to the exams in June.

Thank you once again for your partnership. We are incredibly proud of the commitment our students have shown and look forward to celebrating their achievements in the weeks ahead
