It is often said that music allows us to encounter a different world and discover another side of ourselves. This was vividly demonstrated at the recently concluded FCG International Arts Festival where students shone brilliantly on stage revealing their extraordinary talents. Riding on the lingering excitement of the festival, let’s take a moment to reflect on some of the highlights and progress made in the Performing Arts discipline over the past half-semester.

G10 and G11 students have completed their IGCSE and BTEC examinations, respectively. Through their preparation, they have significantly honed their musical skills and artistic sensibilities. We look forward to all of them achieving outstanding results!

Exploring Music

Grade 9 students are immersing themselves in a diverse array of musical history, exploring the distinctive styles of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th-century periods. Alongside this journey through time, they are actively refining their composition skills, crafting their own works with music notation software. Their dedication extends to expanding their English music vocabulary and rigorous practice sessions with past IGCSE listening papers thus preparing themselves thoroughly for their Cambridge examinations.

During the festival, the entire G9 cohort joined forces with the Rock Band to perform Coldplay’s iconic hit Viva La Vida. Their youthful voices and passionate performance breathed new life into the song. Meanwhile, the grand finale, Black Myth: Wukong, presented by G10 and G11 students, captivated the audience. Blending modern aesthetics with traditional cultural elements, they brought the legendary tale of the Monkey King to life through a dynamic mix of choral singing, Chinese drumming, and operatic solo—showcasing both the epic journey and the indomitable spirit of Wukong.
